Access to Healthcare
Access to healthcare is a right. Healthcare includes quality care options for physical and mental health. However, it is very expensive, especially without access to health insurance. Other barriers to healthcare are transportation, language barriers, etc. Without healthcare, individuals do not get the medical attention they need, leading to prolonged illnesses and health issues that affect their quality of life. People have a right to not only care but the information needed to utilize health-related resources and practices that prevent chronic illnesses and maintain a high quality of life.
Local Example of Access to Healthcare
The Charleston Chamber foundation, Educate, Empower and Elevate foundation, and Roper St Francis Healthcare were awarded an $8.4 million grant to "improve the health of the community and the people they serve". One way Roper is contributing is by using the money to provide more job opportunities and therefore more access to healthcare.
